In a recent article written by Jeff Zias, and published on LinkedIn, Jeff talks about how long-term sustained growth comes through innovation in companies. Jeff also clearly states that, “It’s innovative work that continues to beat competitors, and it is the engaged employee that does this innovative work.”
So, with that in mind, what do organizations need to do to drive innovation, and more importantly engagement in the workplace? Jeff recommends the following advice originally given by Daniel Pink, author of the book, Drive!
- Give team members autonomy in their roles. Allow them to be self-directed versus being told what to do all of the time.
- Give them the opportunity to master new skills.
- Help them achieve lasting impact through the transformational power of purpose. Team members want to be a part of something bigger and better than themselves.
